Pics from Logan Pass, etc.

It's... a beeaaaarrrrrr. (Spoke-sung with inflection. Ask Kieran.)

As we came around the corner on Going-to-the-Sun Road, approaching Logan Pass and the hike that is rated as having the #1 views in the park, we were greeted by this. It was actually a bit more than foggy.

Super-clever photo of disappearing into the fog.

A seasonal ranger said that she had been here 15 summers and never seen it as thick as this.

Sadly, with the potential for thunderstorms and no way to see their approach, we had to cancel our adventure. But we got another chance.

Looking back to the visitor center at Logan Pass as we leave. No, you can't see it.

But when we got down off of the mountain...

We were greeted by an incredibly beautiful day.

We got cell service back just in time to catch Jerry and Kathy as they departed camp for their hike, and were able to join them on the Beaver Pond Loop. It was harder than expected, and not very well-marked, but we finally found the beaver pond, where we picked out a wonderful spot for lunch.

An osprey came by to check us out.

The most impressive beaver lodge I've seen. Not sure if they are connected like a beaver condo suite, or just side-by-side. Didn't swim in to ask.

Dam, that's impressive construction. I always think it's amazing that beavers - which are just huge rodents with massive teeth - are able to manipulate the environment to suit their needs.

On the march, finishing the loop.

That afternoon, we stopped for a few groceries. In case you've ever wondered how much groceries cost when you are an hour of hard driving from the next town, here is your answer. It's actually gone down... last time we were here is was $7.99. They must have gotten another cow.

That evening, going a little stir-crazy, the grown-ups went on a drive seeking animals. And we discovered... a ram having a showdown with a ram. You couldn't make this up. I probably could have made a fortune selling this pic to Dodge if only I had gotten a better shot.

And I still don't understand why bighorn sheep will only show me their butt. It's rude.
