Finally, some excitement!

Hey again everybody, and welcome to July, the greatest month of the year!

You didn't know it, but while blogging last night I was also fighting one of the fiercest battles of my life. Just before bed, Kieran went into the bathroom and came out saying, “Eww, gross, there's all kinds of little bugs on the counter.” What I came to discover was that they were not little tiny bugs. They were, in fact, SPIDER HATCHLINGS. And they were coming out of the faucet and surrounding areas (faucet handles, etc.) by the dozens. Finally, there was only one way to handle the situation:

Since I know that some of you don't get jokes, I'll let you know that I didn't actually burn up the camper, and just found a photo on the internet.

-------------

Last night was another night of rain on the roof (I love it when it rains at night), but was also the second night this week that one of our smoke/methane/CO2 detectors (there are lots of them in a camper) had the battery start to die and chirp at us all night long. When I finally got out of bed in a fit of sleepy rage at 5am to rip it off the wall like a grown-up, I also killed the very last of the demon spiderlings. Without torching the camper.

This morning we headed to hike the Devisadero trail, and hiked up to a beautiful overlook that gave a stunning view of Taos, the flatlands and mountains, and the Rio Grande gorge. Nearly 4 mile round trip, with more than 800 feet of elevation on the ascent.

Needless to say, we were all kind of pooped, because we are still getting acclimated to the elevation. And we were all looking forward to lunch at Michael's Kitchen, a great restaurant and bakery. And there was a long line to get in, and it was hot. And then suddenly there was a little yell and I heard Liz saying “catch her, catch her, catch her” as Izzie fainted. Luckily, we did catch her, and her eyes were back open within seconds. Everybody as the restaurant was very nice, bringing us water and juice and making sure she's okay. And she was. And for everybody who's worrying right now, SHE's FINE. Honestly, I think she handled it better than the rest of us.

The bakery was amazing, with donuts and cinnamon rolls as big as your head. And then we checked out awesomely weird downtown Taos.

My hand is actually about 6 inches above. It's huge. (The roll, not my hand.)

We got home from lunch and all laid down for an epic nap that lasted more than two hours. Obviously, Iz slept between Liz and I, since we were both still having a parental moment. After that, Liz and I met up with Mom and Dad at the historic Taos Inn for a beverage and live music. And the music was incredible. Mostly bluegrass and old-timey stuff, with some acoustic and jazz and tejano thrown in. Brent Berry, Taos NM, check it out.

And so now it is very nearly bedtime again. See you soon.
